On the occasion of the 213th birth anniversary of Adikavi (National Poet) Bhanubhakta Acharya, Jestha Nagarik Samman Pratisthan Nepal, Damak successfully organized a Ramayana Recitation and Poetry Competition to celebrate the rich heritage of the Nepali language and literature while encouraging the active participation of senior citizens.
The event, chaired by Durga Prasad Poudel, President of the Pratisthan, witnessed enthusiastic participation from senior citizens and literature enthusiasts from different wards of Damak Municipality.
Winners of the Ramayana Recitation Competition
The winners of the Ramayana Recitation Competition were:
🥇 First: Sarita Khanal (Damak-1)
🥈 Second: Bishnu Baral (Damak-5)
🥉 Third: Trilochan Upreti (Damak-2)
According to Urmila Bhattarai, Joint Secretary of the Pratisthan, a total of 17 participants took part in the Ramayana recitation competition.
Winners of the Poetry Competition
The Poetry Competition also showcased remarkable literary talent among the participants. The winners were:
🥇 First: Gajendra Ghimire (Damak)
🥈 Second: Sushila Adhikari (Damak-9)
🥉 Third: Bhagwati Giri (Damak-6)
Vice President Shiva Prasad Kafle informed that 10 participants competed in the poetry category.
Honouring the Winners
The winners were presented with certificates and prizes by Kuber Bhattarai, Coordinator of the Damak Municipality Education Committee and Ward Chairperson of Damak-9.
Speaking at the event, Ward Chairperson Bhattarai highlighted the immense contribution of Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya, who translated the Ramayana from Sanskrit into Nepali, making it accessible to ordinary Nepali people. He emphasized that Bhanubhakta's literary legacy continues to inspire generations and remains a cornerstone of Nepali language and literature.
Preserving Language, Literature and Culture
President Durga Prasad Poudel stated that the Pratisthan has been organizing the Ramayana Recitation Program every year to honor the invaluable contribution of Bhanubhakta Acharya to Nepali language and literature. He expressed confidence that such events help preserve Nepal's literary and cultural heritage while encouraging senior citizens to remain socially and intellectually active.
The significance and objectives of the program were further highlighted by Kamal Dahal, Advisor to the Pratisthan, who stressed the importance of preserving Nepali language, literature, and cultural values through community-based initiatives.
